September 23, 2022 - Articles were published today about a bug in the Mail app that is part of iOS 16, 16.0.1. This bug can cause the app to instantly crash when a particular string is found in the header of the message.
These messages contain an invalid "From:" header, with extra double-quote characters.
To protect users, MailRoute has put filtering rules in place to quarantine these messages.
You can read about the Mail app crash at: https://9to5mac.com/2022/09/22/ios-16-mail-app-crash-bug/
If your iOS 16 Mail app is crashing from a message that came in from a different source, such as gMail, you can fix the issue by logging into your email through a non-iOS 16 email client, such as your laptop, and deleting the message causing the issue.
